How to Enable Virtualization Technology (VT-x / AMD-V) in BIOS

Enabling CPU Hardware Virtualization is the single most critical step for smooth Android emulator performance. Learn how to turn on VT across all major motherboard brands.

Why is Virtualization Technology (VT) Mandatory?

Android emulators (such as MuMu Player 12, GameLoop, and LDPlayer 9) operate by running a virtualized Android operating system inside Windows. Without hardware-level Virtualization enabled in your motherboard BIOS, your CPU is forced to use software emulation mode. This results in extreme CPU usage (99-100%), stuttering audio, joystick latency, and frame drops below 20 FPS in BGMI. Enabling VT allows the emulator to execute ARM/x86 instructions directly on CPU hardware cores.

How to Check if VT is Currently Enabled

Before restarting your PC to access BIOS settings, verify whether Virtualization is already turned on in Windows:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. Click on the Performance tab at the top.
  3. Select CPU on the left column.
  4. Look at the system information details at the bottom right. Find the entry labeled Virtualization.
  5. If it says Enabled, VT is active! If it says Disabled, follow the motherboard guide below.

How to Enter BIOS Setup in Windows 10 & 11

The easiest way to enter your motherboard BIOS without pressing keys repeatedly during startup is via Windows Advanced Startup:

Windows Advanced Restart Steps:

  • Open Windows Settings (Win + I).
  • Go to Update & Security (or System › Recovery on Windows 11).
  • Click Restart Now under Advanced Startup.
  • Once the blue menu appears, click Troubleshoot › Advanced Options › UEFI Firmware Settings.
  • Click Restart. Your computer will boot straight into BIOS screen.

Enabling VT by Motherboard Brand

1. ASUS Motherboards (Intel & AMD)

For ASUS motherboards, restart your PC and repeatedly press F2 or Del.

  • Press F7 to enter Advanced Mode.
  • Navigate to the Advanced tab.
  • For Intel CPUs: Click CPU Configuration › locate Intel Virtualization Technology › set to Enabled.
  • For AMD CPUs: Click CPU Configuration › locate SVM Mode (Secure Virtual Machine) › set to Enabled.
  • Press F10 to save changes and restart.

2. MSI Motherboards

Press Delete repeatedly during PC startup to open MSI Click BIOS.

  • Press F7 to toggle Advanced Mode.
  • Go to OC (Overclocking) menu › scroll down to CPU Features.
  • For Intel: Set Intel Virtualization Tech to Enabled.
  • For AMD Ryzen: Set SVM Mode to Enabled.
  • Press F10 to Save & Exit.

3. Gigabyte / AORUS Motherboards

Press Del during startup.

  • Switch to Advanced Mode (F2).
  • Navigate to Tweaker or CPU Settings tab.
  • Find Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel) or SVM Mode (AMD).
  • Change state from Disabled to Enabled.
  • Save and exit by pressing F10.

4. Gaming Laptops (Lenovo Legion, HP OMEN, Dell Alienware)

  • Lenovo Laptops: Press F2 or Fn + F2 at startup. Go to ConfigurationIntel Virtualization Technology or AMD Virtualization › set to Enabled.
  • HP Laptops: Press F10 at startup. Navigate to System ConfigurationVirtualization Technology (VTx/VTd) › set to Enabled.
  • Dell Laptops: Press F2 at startup. Expand Virtualization Support › check Virtualization › click Apply.

Disabling Memory Integrity & Hyper-V Conflicts

On Windows 11, Core Isolation (Memory Integrity) and Hyper-V can conflict with Android emulators even if VT is enabled in BIOS:

  1. Open Start Menu and search for Core Isolation.
  2. Turn OFF the toggle for Memory Integrity.
  3. Open Start Menu, search for Turn Windows features on or off.
  4. Uncheck Hyper-V, Virtual Machine Platform, and Windows Hypervisor Platform if your emulator asks for direct VT mode.
  5. Restart your PC for settings to apply.
