Optimal RAM & CPU Core Allocation Settings for Android Emulators

Learn how to allocate the precise number of CPU cores and RAM gigabytes to your emulator to prevent memory leaks, crashes, and frame stutters.

The Myth of "Allocating All Cores"

A common mistake made by emulator players is setting the CPU core allocation setting to maximum (e.g. assigning 8 Cores out of an 8-Core processor to the emulator). Doing this deprives Windows OS, background graphics drivers, and audio services of CPU time, resulting in severe system locks and emulator crashes.

The golden rule of virtual machine allocation is to leave **at least 2 physical CPU cores and 4GB of System RAM** exclusively for the host Windows operating system.

Recommended Allocation Matrix Based on Your PC Specs

Your Total PC Specs CPU Cores to Allocate RAM Memory to Allocate Expected Performance
4 Cores / 8GB RAM 2 Cores (Medium) 3072 MB – 4096 MB Stable 45-60 FPS (720p)
6 Cores / 16GB RAM 4 Cores (High) 4096 MB – 6144 MB Smooth 90 FPS (1080p)
8+ Cores / 16GB RAM 4 to 6 Cores (Custom) 6144 MB – 8192 MB Locked 90-120 FPS
16+ Cores / 32GB RAM 6 Cores (Ultra) 8192 MB (8 GB Cap) Ultra 120-240 FPS (2K/4K)

Expanding Windows Pagefile (Virtual RAM Expansion)

If your PC has 8GB or 16GB of RAM, expanding the Windows Virtual Memory Pagefile on your SSD prevents emulators from crashing when BGMI runs for extended 2-hour gaming sessions.

Step-by-Step Virtual Memory Setup:

  1. Press Win + R, type sysdm.cpl and press Enter.
  2. Go to the Advanced tab › under Performance click Settings.
  3. In Performance Options, go to Advanced tab › click Change... under Virtual Memory.
  4. Uncheck "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives".
  5. Select your fastest SSD drive letter (e.g. C: or D:).
  6. Select Custom size: Set Initial size to 8192 MB and Maximum size to 16384 MB.
  7. Click Set, then click OK and restart your PC.

Setting Emulator Process Priority in Task Manager

To ensure Windows prioritizes emulator calculations over background updates:

  1. Launch your emulator and open BGMI.
  2. Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
  3. Go to the Details tab.
  4. Right-click on your emulator main process (e.g. NemuHeadless.exe, Ld9BoxHeadless.exe, or AppMarket.exe).
  5. Hover over Set Priority › choose Above Normal or High.
